Hello, my name is
I used to be a backend engineer with experience on backend programming (PHP), system scripting (bash, Perl, Python), frameworks (Drupal, Symfony), database administration and tunning (MySQL), caching (CDNs, Varnish), streaming, testing, configuration management (Puppet, Salt), autoescaling (AWS), high performance and high availability.
I have experience in both (i) the art of running your own company and (ii) the tao of working for a big one. Joinning both experiences I have experience in sales, project management, corporate policies, 24x7, web standards & browser compatibility, user support, hiring & motivating people and, last but not least, money.
I am available for freelance work.
After 10+ years involved mostly in management, probably in my maximum level of incompetence ;-), I now employ all my working time on development. Isolation means a private office with headphones & limited contact with other developers and customers, focused on producing great code to solve problems. I am available for freelance work.
Main technical responsible for backend code for the B2C division, including security, technical excellence and 24x7 operations. With a team of around 40 backend engineers, we were in charge for softonic.com (and all other domains), Softonic for Windows, native mobile apps and a set of internal tools. Although it only lasted 7 months, I could write several books with that I learnt there and what we achieved with this amazing team.
Cofounder and Managing Director, focused on Key Account Management and Strategic Technical Leadership. The team reached 30+ members in 2012 and 2013. Between 2013 and 2014 we created Drufony, a publishing and commerce solution based on Symfony, allowing the company to focus on one product and perform a downsizing. While keeping the ownership of the company, I left the day-to-day responsabilities in this downsizing in 2014.
Management of backend & frontend development, systems and operations of motogp.com, including 24x7 monitoring and datacenter management. I managed the refactoring of the whole MotoGP codebase, creating a MVC based framework. A similar code was released as Lemur Framework, published during a talk in PHP Barcelona Conference 2010. I left this position after 3 seasons, to start a new company and to spend more time with my family.
I cofounded Alquimia, a Drupal agency. Before, I cofounded Interactors, a telecommuting based cooperative. Before, I maintained packages on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution, I used to write and translate documentation and helped organising GNOME Guadec3 (2002). Before, I was an intern in the University, maintaining computers and databases. Before, I got a job in an NGO in which I had previously been a volunteer and spent some time in Croatia, Belgium, Hungary and Germany. Before, I volunteered in a free radio station, where I received technical training.
